Description:

This seminar will review course design options where discussion forums are intended as formative learning activities. The Participation Forum methodology will be reviewed in depth, which has been shown to consistently achieve high levels of student engagement with the discussion topics. Motivational techniques will be reviewed, and the use of various types of assessment criteria and rubrics will be evaluated for applicability to sustainable teaching practice.

About the speaker(s):

<p>Brant Knutzen has been teaching using the Moodle LMS since 2005.&nbsp; His teaching approach focuses on the setup and operation of highly engaging teaching / learning activities on the LMS which maximize student collaboration and the social construction of knowledge.&nbsp; He began operating a university project using the Moodle 2 platform in July 2011, and recently taught two MSc Education courses on eLearning using the Faculty of Education Moodle 2 server.&nbsp; He is currently the Learning Designer for the Faculty of Education at HKU.</p>
