Description:

Janice will speak on the Modeling Across the Curriculum (mac.concord.org) and the Making Thinking Visible (http://mtv.concord.org) projects. In the MAC project, we are investigating how technology can be used to promote deep understanding of science content and of the nature of science and the nature of models while fostering inquiry skills and improving attitudes toward science learning in physical science, biology, and chemistry classes. We are aslo addressing how we can harness technology in order to scale up this type of intervention up on a broad scale. In the MTV project, Janice will address how we can promote students content knowledge and epistemological knowledge using WISE (Web-based Inquiry Science Environment; Linn & Hsi, 2000) in an authentic context of studying plate tectonics.
