About the Seminar
Professor Slotta will describe the trajectory of his work in the area of technology enhanced learning environments, briefly reviewing the Web-based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE) in terms of its strengths and weaknesses, then discuss the design of a new generation of open source technologies using the Scalable Architecture for Interactive Learning (SAIL).  he will demonstrate SAIL, then discuss his current efforts to develop the SAIL Smart Space, an open source configurable smart classroom that will support complex pedagogical designs.  He will present a new model where cooperative knowledge construction is blended with scripted inquiry to enable individuals to capitalize on the knowledge resources developed by their community.  He will present data from a recent study of a wiki-based curriculum that implemented this model.
