The seminar will explore a number of notions drawn from developmental psychology and cognitive science in the context of the new digital age with the opportunities for knowledge sharing that that offers. The context will be both formal learning (in schools and universities) and experiential (knowledge gained through working on tasks). The issues are based upon empirical research and are underpinned by theories from cultural-historical school of psychology originating in the 1930 s in the Soviet Union. The topics will be considered under the following themes:
formal and tacit knowledge;
sharing professional knowledge;
knowledge acquisition processes;
the nature of learning;
levels of activity;
distributed working and learning;
coping with complexity.
