Abstract:

Blended learning—combining online and face-to-face instruction—has become an increasingly prevalent approach in higher education, offering students greater flexibility in their learning. However, its effectiveness depends largely on student engagement, a critical determinant of academic achievement and learning satisfaction. This seminar examines how student engagement can be effectively fostered in blended learning environments. It provides an overview of key factors associated with engagement across cognitive, behavioral, emotional, agentic, and social dimensions, and highlights common challenges educators face in sustaining student engagement. The session offers implications for educators to foster more engaging and effective blended learning experiences.
